The Top 5 Video Games That Deserve A Movie (Or At Least A Good One)

Video Games being adapted into feature films is quickly growing popular now a days. From Resident Evil to Max Payne, to the now in-development pictures such as Assassin's Creed, and even the recent Need For Speed, it seems like almost any game can get made for the big screen. Now obviously not every game is currently in development, and some of the movies that have been made are less than great (the movie in the picture above, for example). This got me thinking, "What games DESERVE movies?" There are some games that have been around forever, and have either been neglected or wrecked when it comes to cinema. Then there are some games that are fairly recent, but there is just so much potential that Hollywood needs to capitalize on the opportunity, and the sooner the better! And for some games, the right movie could relaunch its popularity. So, here is a list I've compiled of:

The Top 5 Video Games That Deserve A Movie (Or At Least A Good One):

5) Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts (as some of you may know from previous posts) is one of my all-time favorite video games.  It's full of Disney characters, a good plot, and to make things better it's combined with the world of Final Fantasy. Now Final Fantasy has made a few animated film that were very well made. My proposition is that Disney make the film with the same style of animation. Disney produces a TON of animated films with Pixar, and I think that a Kingdom Hearts Movie would go over Great! Granted that with all of the cut-scenes in the game, combining them would practically be a movie itself. There's just so much story there, and just the fact that almost every Disney character EVER would be in the film would sell itself. It would also make dedicated Disney fans to go back and watch the original Disney movie of their favorite character, and it would also increase sales of the upcoming HD Remixes of the games AND promote sales for Kingdom Hearts 3.

4) Mortal Kombat. I'm aware that Mortal Kombat has had a few movies as well as TV series. My problem is that they just weren't made well (again that's in my opinion). I feel like modern special effects would help a lot. The right cast, the writers from the games (and maybe even some of the writes from DC Comics since they made the original comic series for Mortal Kombat) , and then a creative yet gory director like the team from Sin City (Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, and Quentin Tarantino) or a team of that nature, and there's great potential! I'm a big fan of the Mortal Kombat Series (and am VERY excited for the new game!), so I definitely don't want to see it ruined. And again, I'm not necessarily saying that the older adaptations are bad, I just feel like they could be done better now. I'm dying to see a Sub-Zero fatality in today's CGI!

3) Pokemon. HUR MAH DUR!!! If you have been keeping up with my posts, I'm a major Pokemon Geek! Pokemon has been around since 1998 (That's 16 years, and I'm 21). It's one of the few game series that not only has withstood the test of time, but is continually putting out products, and are being received well (yes it's met with skepticism the further it prolongs, but it's overall well received). It's also a franchise that is constantly putting out animated films (I think I've seen all of them now thanks to Netflix and HuluPlus). I'm more wanting a live-action film (which in a previous post I've already compiled the best choices as far as actors go for a live action film). My fear however is that either a) it's just too big of a project or that b) it would entirely toooo expensive to be done well. None of us want a botched film, especially when it's such an iconic franchise. But still, a live-action scene where a beautifully well made CGI Pickachu thunder-strikes Chris Hardwick and Chloe Dykstra as team rocket and sends them "blasting off again" is one of my dreams!

2) Left 4 Dead. The Left 4 Dead Series is a very special game to me; it helped fuel my once considered to be "unhealthy" zombie obsession. The game has only been around since 2008, but has quickly become a cult classic. It's got a great cast of characters, including a whiney bad-boy type and a babbling red-neck. The zombies are a combination of both 28 Days later type zombies along with "special infected" which resembles zombies from Resident Evil. What makes this game even more movie adaptable is that the game resolved around the survival of 4 very different characters, which would add a lot of potential drama between zombie killing. I know that the most people would say that the whole "survivors verses the living dead" thing almost played out, but honestly the elements with in this game, combined with the right director, could really stand out for itself. But with the game full of movie posters with killer tag-lines already, it'd be awesome if we could really see a No Mercy campaign movie!

$ finally, the video game that deserves a movie the MOST

1) Nintendo. I'm sorry, this is kind of cheating. I say Nintendo because their are SO many titles that deserve a decent movie. Obviously the Mario Brother's movie that's shown above was a bust. The Legend of Zelda had an animated tv show that didn't hold up. Sonic has had several disastrous adaptations. Metroid would be awesome if it was adapted. They ALL have been around forever and deserve a fair chance! Do individual films, dish out a Super Smash Bros movie and combine them all, or do like Marvel with the Avengers and do both (That's actually be pretty sweet!!)! I've heard that some of these are possibly in the works, but then again Ghostbusters 3 has been rumored for years now, so you can never really tell until that trailer pops up on YouTube or your TV. There's just so much potential with any one of these franchises. Zelda and Mario are growing more and more popular with each new video game instalment, and a Sonic movie could remind people just how awesome a blue hedgehog that has a money-hording really is! And Metroid could be the next Alien! But while we may not can decide which one deserves a movie the most, I think all of us are ready for a kickin' CGI Bowser!

That's my list! Any one of these ideas would make an amazing movie! Is there a game that I missed? Any suggestions on who could direct a live-action Kirby movie? Is the world ready for another Mortal Kombat movie? Let me know in the comments, and until next time, let the  Geekery that's inside all of us shine true!
