5 Reboots That Hold Up

So a couple of months ago on the Blog I added a poll of what post you guys would want to read next....... I got 1 vote. It was 5 Reboots That Hold Up. Now I know that this is an objective topic, and some of you may disagree with me. I Love Movies! And, to be honest, in some cases I'm such a fan of the IDEA of a movie that I'll become a little biased and give it more credit than it may deserve. If you guys disagree with me, I completely understand. I WANT your opinions on the matter. That's why at the end of every blog I ask you guys to add your input in the comment section below. So, without any further delay, here they are:

5 Reboots That Hold Up (In My Opinion!):

5) Man of Steel

This is one that a lot of people hated. Frankly, I really don't get why. It was great! I thought that this movie portrayed the story of the most fearsome, ... uhm, I mean popular (go back and read my post on my fear of Superman [http://2ndtierguardian.blogspot.com/2014/09/serious-take-on-something-non-serious.html]). IMDb.com gave the movie a 7.3 out of 10 Star rating, which again I think was too low. The movie as a whole was great. I saw it in 3-D with a group of close friends, and it was amazing. One of the guys in the group was my older cousin Will, who is a major comic geek. He had one problem with the movie:  [SPOILERS!]  that Superman killed Zod. Superman doesn't kill (suposedly.... read the post!) and the fact that he snaps Zod's neck was a major problem to him. I sort of feel that Superman didn't really have a choice; Zod would've continued to come back and put innocents at risk, and he'd already done enough damage. But, I can understand how that would be a big problem for most folks. Still, Superman stopping the villain of the movie in a fatal way should't ruin a movie. Henry Cavill and Zakk Snyder did a great job, and I can not WAIT for the Sequel. I feel that movie Hold's Up!

4) Robocop

IMDb.com wasn't as nice with this pick, giving it a 6.3 out of 10 Stars. I made the fortunate mistake of watching the reboot first and then went back and saw the original version, and I'm kind of glad, because I'm assuming that's the reason I was allowed to enjoy the Reboot. To me, this movie gets major bonus points: it's one of those movies that make you think about just how far our country will go to keep us "safe". It's a political thriller, in that aspect, which I think is awesome! A "sci-fi/superhero" movie can make us reflect on the state of our society. You combine that with an All-Star Cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel Jackson, and combine the relatively new talent of Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Michael Kenneth Williams, and we have a movie that, while based on an incredible Original, still manages to Hold Up!

3) The Amazing Spider-Man (Series)

Again, this movie, or really these movies, have been getting some undeserved heat. I loved these! They were 1,000,000,000 x's better than the Tobey Maguire Trilogy! Andrew Garfield was the Perfect Peter Parker: He was just the right amount of nerdy and charming! They went into the back story of Peter's Parents! And the villains that they chose for this were unexpected and absolutely perfect. This all around was an amazing set of films. Also, they managed to do an awesome portrayal of Gwen Stacey. It's just a much MUCH better attempt (successful attempt at that) at the Spider-Man story. Also, keep in mind that these movies are predecessor's to the Maguire Trilogy, so it isn't hard to beat that. But, IMDb.com gave the first film a 7.1 and the second film a 6.9 out of 10 Stars. That's their opinion. To me, these movies Hold Up!

2) Star Trek (Series)

I am a Trekkie. I am, I love Star Trek. I've Seen some of the original movies, some of the original show, and I've seen some of The Next Generation, and I'VE LOVED IT! It's amazing. These movies were what got me to become such a fan. From what I've seen, most everybody else agrees with me that these movies were amazing. IMDb.com gave the first movie an 8.0 and the second a 7.8 out of 10, which is better than all of the other films we've looked at. I honestly think one of the big reasons everyone was so accepting of was: [SPOILERS] bringing back Leonard Nimoy as the future Spock, which they did in both films. Star Trek is one of the oldest titles in the modern-era of sci-fi, and adapting such a big name is tricky. You've really got to do it justice for it to work, and I think that these 2 latest movies do just that. You've got Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Karl Urban as the core crew of the Enterprise, and then you have villains played by people like Eric Bana and Benedict Cumberbatch, and then other big names like Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, Ben Cross, and Leonard Nimoy; That's just a great ensemble! These movies have action, adventure, suspense, romance, comedy, and lots and lots of sci-fi! These movies undoubtedly Hold Up!

& finally, the movie(s) that held up better than any other movie(s) have

1) Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy

I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on this number one pick, because it's almost a law that these films were phenomenally well accepted and most certainly hold up to the original films. Nolan was an absolute genius, and managed to bring a very realistic portrayal of Gotham City and all of the criminal/terrorist waves that come upon the city. Christian Bale is a great Batman, and everyone else that they chose for these films were perfect (I'm not going to list them all [go to IMDb.com and look yourself]). Batman Begins received an 8.3, The Dark Knight received a 9.0, and The Dark Knight Rises received an 8.5 on IMDb.com. They Hold Up, plain and simple.

These were my picks. Tell me yours! Let me know what your picks were, if you disagree or agree with my picks, or just say hi in the comments below. I'll be posting My 5 Games I Can't Wait For In 2015 later today. Also, check out my latest Blog Post over in "It's Dangerous To Go Alone! Take This." on Nehemiah Chapter 1: Do Something! Give Me Geekery or Give Me Death!

5 Games I Can't Wait For In 2015

I'm a gamer. I love all different types of games, across almost all platforms. Console games, table top games, social media and mobile games, etc., I love it all. 2015 is here, and with a new year comes brand spanking new games!!! I know that there a TON of games coming out this new year, but somehow I've managed to limit the list for this post down to 5. Even though half of these games on this list I can't play yet (because I don't have the Next Gen [really current gen bow]) consoles, here are:

5 Games I Can't Wait For In 2015

5) Mortal Kombat X

The next installment of the long running Mortal Kombat Series is coming at us this year and I Can't Wait!! I've been playing Mortal Kombat since the very first game came out and I have loved all of them! This new game has better graphics, bloodier fatalities, and the one I'm most excited about: New Characters!!
The picture above shows a list on Mortal Kombat X's Wikipedia Page of new and old characters on the game! With the succes of Mortal Kombat (aka Mortal Kombat 9, released in 2011), as well as all of the games since the series started in 1992, Mortal Kombat X will be released on April 14, 2015, and I can't wait (must resist Get Over Here and Finish Him puns.....)!

4) The Order: 1886

This is one that unfortunately o Will Not get to play anytime soon, because it's a Play Station exclusive, The Order: 1886 is a game set in an alteranate history London centered around an order of knights fighting against half-breed monsters (basically werewolves). The gameplay looks absolutely amazing. I'll definitely be watching someone play through on Twitch whenever this game comes out on February 20.

3) Dying Light

This game is getting all kinds of hype! Dying Light is one of the most horrifying games I've seen footage for! It's intense-looking zombie game. Now I know what you may be thinking: zombies are way over-saturating the media these days (which is not a problem to me whatsoever because I'm loving it), but Dying Light is supposed to be a step above our current selection of zombie games, because when night falls on the game, it gets So. Much. More. Intense! The zombies become crazy powerful and blood thirsty and if you are g properly sheltered and armed, you might as well stop playing now before you rage quit from dying! This game looks sick, but unfortunately this'll have to be another Twicth-following game, because it's only going to be released for PS4 and X-Box One. Still, I can't wait for January 27 for this game to come out!

2) Evolve

EVOLVE!!!!! Hur ma dur!!! This game!!!! The same people that brought us the Left 4 Dead games bring us Evolve. The story is (from Wikipedia):
Evolve is set on Shear, a distant planet located in the "Far Arm" of space, that humanity has traveled to in the distant future. The established colonies, considered the most valuable in this region of space, are soon attacked by malevolent alien Monsters. As the Monsters slaughter the colonists on Shear, a former planet tamer named William Cabot is brought out of retirement to deal with the threat, in order to evacuate the remaining colonists from Shear. In response, Cabot assembles a team of Hunters—consisting of war veteranspsychopathsprofessionals, and expendables—to eliminate the Monsters, setting the main conflict of Evolve
The graphics and gameplay for this thing look absolutely Beast! The Kraken is the coolest part of the game (it's one of the Aliens you can either fight it okay as). This again is another X-Box One and PS4 only games (which is Poop!), but I still Can Not WAIT to watch people play on Twitch. February 10 needs to Hurry Up!!!!

& finally, the game I by far CAN'T WAIT FOR IN 2015

1) Boss Monster: The Video Game

If you read my "5 Even Geekier Things I Do" post last week, then you know all about Boss Monster. Boss Monster is an 8-but video-game styled dungeon building table top card game in which players take on the role of a villain and try to lure heroes in their dungeon and kill them. It's honestly in my top 5 favorite table top games of all time. Last year, the developers of Boss Monster (Brotherwise Games) started (and exceeded their goal) a Kickstarter to bring the game to Tablets, iPads, Kindle Fire HD's, and Steam for computers. Well, I helped fund, and the game is coming out THIS YEAR!!!! They're actually shooting to release the game and all of the prizes for backers NEXT MONTH!!!! I can't wait! This game is SOOOOOOO MUCH FUN as a table top game, and it'll be even MORE FUN to now get to play with people all over! For more information go to brotherwisegames.com!

These are my picks for games this year! What do you guys think? Jazzed for these games? Looking forward to something else? Wanna play me in Boss Monster: The Video Game when it comes out? Let me know in the comments below. Check out my other post I did today on my 5 Reboots That Hold Up and go also go check out my Blog "It's Dangerous To Go Alone! 5 Even Geekier Things I Do

Hello All! It's 2015!!! Which means a new year of Blogs! I've dedicated myself to cranking out a new post Every Thursday! If I know in advance that something will keep me from a post on a Thursday I'll try to get it out sooner. I may even branch out to other people to help contribute. Today's Post in honor of the new year is about Geekiness (hence the name "Geekery"). Particularly MY geekiness. I did post a little while back about some of the Geekiest things I do. Looking back now, I realize: I do WAY more geeky stuff than that! So, here is

 Even Geekier Things I Do:

5) I Play Pathfinder

Ever since my Uncle first introduced me to Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, I have been OBSESSED with RPG games! I've loved them! So then when I found out that you can play them without a controller, I was all, "Whaaaaa?!?" It's been years searching, bu I finally have a small group of friends that, when time permits, we will bust out the 7-Piece Dice Set, a pencil, and some paper, and we'll play Pathfinder! It's almost Exactly like D&D, but a little cheaper. Now granted, we've only gotten play a hand-full of times (like 5) because everyone is so Gosh-Darn busy, but when we do I'm in Geek Heaven. I'm a Dwarf Cleric named Lothar. Our GM is new to the whole story telling concept, but is a BEAST! If anyone is interested in playing, either on your own with a group of friends, or with me and my friends, please let me know! The starter set isn't that expensive, and it's really easy to play.

4) I have a Subscription to LOOTCRATE
In case you haven't heard of the AWESOME-NESS that is LOOTCRATE, allow me to fill you in: Once a month LOOTCRATE sends out a box (crate) of awesome geeky goodness (loot) to Your Dor Step! It's a subscription, but the amazing thing is you pick how you want to subscribe! One-time Only? 3 Months at a time? Heck, 6 Months at a time?YOU DECIDE! The subscription starts at $20 a month and goes down from here, depending on the subscription plan you choose. 3) I Collect Nutcrackers

Please excuse the quality of my pictures, my brother the photographer doesn't move in with me until this weekend. I, for the last 8 or 9 years now, have been collecting nutcrackers. I love them! I currently (after racking up this past Christmas) have 54 nutcrackers in my collection. I can remember the first few I got thinking, "Man that's a wicked beard and 'stache!" That's honestly the reason I started collecting them: I loved their beards and mustaches! The hobby just grew and grew. Now granted,I usually can't get them until Christmas time. So unless I have something that I'm just dying to have, when people ask me what I want for Christmas, I'll tell them either money or nutcrackers. For those of you that are also in the nutcracker-collecting game, I only have 2 Kurt Adler's, but I'm DYING to have more (He's THE guy when it comes to Nutcrackers). I hope to one day a) learn to make my own nutcrackers, b) film a horror movie with Joel about Nutcrackers, and c) eventally open a hotel that's Nutcracker-themed and have 2 massive columns out front that are made to look like Nutcrackers!

2) I Helped Fund The "Boss Monster: The Video Game" On Kickstarter

Boss Monster is a standalone card game that challenges 2-4 players to become videogame-style villains and build deadly side-scrolling dungeons. Players compete to see who can attract and destroy the most adventurers. But beware! You must make your dungeon as deadly as it is attractive, or the puny adventurers might kill you first! Made by Brotherwise Games, the game is up and coming, and is quickly getting more and more attention. In fact, now, after a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, Brotherwise Games raised enough funds to bring Boss Monster to digital platforms. Video game developer Plain Concepts, creators of Wave Engine, are currently hard at work on this digital tabletop conversion. I helped fund this!!! My friend introduced me to the game! It really is just a ton of fun, and the "video game" is going to be available on Steam, Android Tables, iOS for the iPad, and the Kindle Fire HD! Here's a link to et yourself a copy of the physical Table-Top Card Game;
