5 Reboots That Hold Up

So a couple of months ago on the Blog I added a poll of what post you guys would want to read next....... I got 1 vote. It was 5 Reboots That Hold Up. Now I know that this is an objective topic, and some of you may disagree with me. I Love Movies! And, to be honest, in some cases I'm such a fan of the IDEA of a movie that I'll become a little biased and give it more credit than it may deserve. If you guys disagree with me, I completely understand. I WANT your opinions on the matter. That's why at the end of every blog I ask you guys to add your input in the comment section below. So, without any further delay, here they are:

5 Reboots That Hold Up (In My Opinion!):

5) Man of Steel

This is one that a lot of people hated. Frankly, I really don't get why. It was great! I thought that this movie portrayed the story of the most fearsome, ... uhm, I mean popular (go back and read my post on my fear of Superman [http://2ndtierguardian.blogspot.com/2014/09/serious-take-on-something-non-serious.html]). IMDb.com gave the movie a 7.3 out of 10 Star rating, which again I think was too low. The movie as a whole was great. I saw it in 3-D with a group of close friends, and it was amazing. One of the guys in the group was my older cousin Will, who is a major comic geek. He had one problem with the movie:  [SPOILERS!]  that Superman killed Zod. Superman doesn't kill (suposedly.... read the post!) and the fact that he snaps Zod's neck was a major problem to him. I sort of feel that Superman didn't really have a choice; Zod would've continued to come back and put innocents at risk, and he'd already done enough damage. But, I can understand how that would be a big problem for most folks. Still, Superman stopping the villain of the movie in a fatal way should't ruin a movie. Henry Cavill and Zakk Snyder did a great job, and I can not WAIT for the Sequel. I feel that movie Hold's Up!

4) Robocop

IMDb.com wasn't as nice with this pick, giving it a 6.3 out of 10 Stars. I made the fortunate mistake of watching the reboot first and then went back and saw the original version, and I'm kind of glad, because I'm assuming that's the reason I was allowed to enjoy the Reboot. To me, this movie gets major bonus points: it's one of those movies that make you think about just how far our country will go to keep us "safe". It's a political thriller, in that aspect, which I think is awesome! A "sci-fi/superhero" movie can make us reflect on the state of our society. You combine that with an All-Star Cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Samuel Jackson, and combine the relatively new talent of Joel Kinnaman, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, and Michael Kenneth Williams, and we have a movie that, while based on an incredible Original, still manages to Hold Up!

3) The Amazing Spider-Man (Series)

                   

Again, this movie, or really these movies, have been getting some undeserved heat. I loved these! They were 1,000,000,000 x's better than the Tobey Maguire Trilogy! Andrew Garfield was the Perfect Peter Parker: He was just the right amount of nerdy and charming! They went into the back story of Peter's Parents! And the villains that they chose for this were unexpected and absolutely perfect. This all around was an amazing set of films. Also, they managed to do an awesome portrayal of Gwen Stacey. It's just a much MUCH better attempt (successful attempt at that) at the Spider-Man story. Also, keep in mind that these movies are predecessor's to the Maguire Trilogy, so it isn't hard to beat that. But, IMDb.com gave the first film a 7.1 and the second film a 6.9 out of 10 Stars. That's their opinion. To me, these movies Hold Up! 

2) Star Trek (Series)

                   

I am a Trekkie. I am, I love Star Trek. I've Seen some of the original movies, some of the original show, and I've seen some of The Next Generation, and I'VE LOVED IT! It's amazing. These movies were what got me to become such a fan. From what I've seen, most everybody else agrees with me that these movies were amazing. IMDb.com gave the first movie an 8.0 and the second a 7.8 out of 10, which is better than all of the other films we've looked at. I honestly think one of the big reasons everyone was so accepting of was: [SPOILERS] bringing back Leonard Nimoy as the future Spock, which they did in both films. Star Trek is one of the oldest titles in the modern-era of sci-fi, and adapting such a big name is tricky. You've really got to do it justice for it to work, and I think that these 2 latest movies do just that. You've got Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, and Karl Urban as the core crew of the Enterprise, and then you have villains played by people like Eric Bana and Benedict Cumberbatch, and then other big names like Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, Ben Cross, and Leonard Nimoy; That's just a great ensemble! These movies have action, adventure, suspense, romance, comedy, and lots and lots of sci-fi! These movies undoubtedly Hold Up!

& finally, the movie(s) that held up better than any other movie(s) have

1) Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy

I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on this number one pick, because it's almost a law that these films were phenomenally well accepted and most certainly hold up to the original films. Nolan was an absolute genius, and managed to bring a very realistic portrayal of Gotham City and all of the criminal/terrorist waves that come upon the city. Christian Bale is a great Batman, and everyone else that they chose for these films were perfect (I'm not going to list them all [go to IMDb.com and look yourself]). Batman Begins received an 8.3, The Dark Knight received a 9.0, and The Dark Knight Rises received an 8.5 on IMDb.com. They Hold Up, plain and simple.

Just An Update On Me

So, it's occurred to me that I've never really shared with all of my many dedicated readers (OK, that may be a stretch, but whatevs.......) that I've never really shared with you guys anything about myself. I mean yeah I have the small bio, and all of these posts are a reflection of myself and my interests and opinions, but I never share what's going on in my life. So I thought that I'd share with you guys some things about me recently: what new games I have, things going on with the church, what the future looks like, etc..I promise that I'll also have an actual blog post posted shortly after this. 

Recently things have been, ...... uhm, ..... Crazy? I guess. I don't really know the right word for it. A lot's been going on, but I haven't necessarily been busy..... Does that make sense? Oh well. 

We're in three weeks into November now, and It's just crazy how fast 2014 has gone by, and all of the different changes in my life. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll have a post solely dedicated to looking back at 2014 either at the very end of the year, or immediately after 2015 begins. 

The there are two main things that I wanted to share with you guys, but one I will save for the very last part of the post, because it's the most important. 

I've been sick for almost a full week now (as pictured above) ......... and it sucks! I got sick last weekend after having a hang out night with the youth at church. I'm not blaming them at all! Lol those kids are amazing, and even they had gotten me sick, it would've been worth it. I think it's just how cold I keep my Man Cave and how cold the temperature outside has gotten. I can NOT handle being hot, whatsoever. I keep it cold 24/7. I'm Mr. Snow Miser I guess. But yeah, I've barely done anything this week. I've mostly just been sleeping. I'm even missing the Video Game Olympics that one of the churches in town are hosting!!! *Angry Face!* Just stuck at the Man Cave being all Sicky McGhee over here.

In way of Video Games, last month I picked up Smash Bros! Then this week I picked up my pre-ordered copy of Dragon Age: Inquisition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of my free-time that I feel like being awake have gone to that! I've also started trying to build an Assassin's Creed collection. I know, I'm getting on board super late. I'm Sorry. But so far I have the first game, and then the Ezio Trilogy, which is composed of the second game, Brotherhood, and Revelations. Then I also got the first Mass Effect on X-Box Live. Another game that I'm way behind on playing, I know. That's about it, that's worth mentioning at least.

Movies: Last Month I saw Annabelle in theaters, and it scared the mess out of me..... I honestly think that may be the scariest movie I've ever seen; I haven't quite decided yet. Then this month I saw Interstellar with my friend Adam, and we both thought it was great.* I've also gotten to see quite a few recent films lately. I've seen X-Men: Days of Future Past, 22 Jump Street, A Million Ways To Die In The West, Neighbors, VHS: Viral, Odd Thomas, and I think that's it. I have a copy of Maleficent now, but I haven't watched it yet. I'm super excited to though. Also, Adam and I, as well as my brother Joel and best bud Dean all watched a ton of scary movies for Halloween including: Poltergeist, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, You're Next, The Excrocist, VHS 1 &2, Village of the Damned, and then the 80's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. 

Ok, so TV nowadays is just phenomenal, am I right? So far I'm up to date withall of the Walking Dead, Once Upon A Time*, The Flash, Gotham, American Horror Story: Freak Show, and Brooklyn 99. Unfortunately, I've just today finished the VGHS Series, and I shed several tears. Episode 4 of Season 3=Straight to the feels...... I've recently gotten in to the shows Community and The 100. Polar Opposites, I know. I finally got Marvel's Agents of Shield Season 1, and I can finally watch Arrow Season 2 on Netflix now. Other than that, I'm really into the Syfy Show The Almighty Johnsons, and then Girl Meets World (don't you DARE judge me). I can't watch the newest season of Doctor Who because I don't have BBC and am furious everyday over it. I'm ready for Face Off to come back, as well as Wizard Wars, Heroes of Cosplay, and Jim Henson's Creature Show Challenge to come back on, as well as Parks and Rec and Community. 

I'm sure that you guys noticed the astricks (*) in the paragraphs above. One new thing that's happened recently is that I've become on of Geeks Under Grace's (geeksundergrace.com) newest TV Reviewers! Every week I watch Once Upon A Time, review it, and post my thoughts on their website usually every Monday, maybe on Tuesday if it's a busy week. The website is Awesome! They do reviews on just about everything in pop culture: movies, tv shows, music, video games, everything! I'm super thankful to apart of their website, and I hope you guys will go and read my reviews and give me some feedback!

Also, my friend Adam is trying to start up his own blog dedicated to movie reviewing, but he and I are looking at teaming up for some new projects, including starting our own Twitch stream and doing a movie review podcast. He's a major cine-buff, and is a big fan of slasher/horror movies, and really anything from the 80's. I prefer more modern movies. So we kind of have a good yin and yang thing going on. Be looking for more updates on that, and as soon as Adam does his first blog post, I will definitely be sharing the link on here. Also, I have some friends of mine working on designing a 2ndTierGuardian Logo!!!! I'm Super Excited. One of my friends sent me a rough sketch picture and it looks amazing! As soon as it's ready I'll upload the Crap out of it! 

As far as the church is concerned, we're doing great! Members are joining all the time. We have soooo much going on that honestly, there's a place for everyone. Whether you wanna roll up your sleeves and work, or you just have time for a weekly Bible study, or whatever your needs are, our church is awesome about meeting them. Our Pastor Bro. Micah is a one of a kind man who truly wants to help you personally find God's Will for YOUR life and will help you any way he can. I am the youth pastor and do my best to both keep the teens involved and teach them what God has for their lives. This week we made and delivered Thanksgiving Baskets for the members of our church that are shut ins. Last month we We went on a trip to a Haunted Corn Maze. Next month we'll be having a Celebrity Look-A-Like Contest and then our Christmas Party. We tried to start a lesson Series on Cults and Religions of the World, but quickly got side tracked, so come January we'll be picking that back up. It's busy and hectic, but 100% Worth It!

Here's the second thing I wanted to say: I need your prayers. My family needs your prayers. I won't go in to detail (for my families sake), but my Mom is in some pretty bad pain, and my Dad and Brother, as well as the rest of my family back home, are doing everything they can to help her. It's hard for me, because I'm not there anymore. I'll maybe get a phone call once a day to get an update. She's back at work now, which I think is Ridiculous, but she's gotta do what she's gotta do (I don't mean that in a rude way, I just don't want her to get hurt). But, I get to go home next week for Christmas, so maybe I'll get to help her out while I'm there. Just please pray for us.

There ya go guys! Now you know the essentials. Can you guys believe that I'm almost up to 1,000 views?!? It's crazy! I'd love to hit that number before 2015 so Share Share Share!!! 5 Of Some Of The Geekiest Things I Do

Some of you may actually reading these posts, and for that I appreciate it. A lot. Some of you may even be "subscribers" and read all of my posts. It's unlikely, but again I appreciate it. But some of you may be wondering, "What makes him an 'expert'?" "What qualifies him as a geek?" Well, I will GLADLY tell you. So, without further ado:

5 Of Some Of The Geekiest Things I Do:

5) I Named My Car Carol. So, my first ever vehicle was a Jimmy that I called Jimmy (I know, lame). It was awesome, but, I was NOT used to maintaining vehicles. So, I never changed the oil, ...... and...... kapoowie. No more Jimmy. So I saved my money and got myself an '05 Nissan Altima. It's a great car, and i tried so hard to keep it in good shape. But, I have a brother, Joel Campbell (Twitter: @JoelCampbel17 and Youtube: Far From The Tree Productions please check out his content) who, I love him to death, I do, but he isn't the most graceful and/or cautious of drivers. Joel backed in to my Nissan the DAY BEFORE my first payment! HUR MA DUR! Then, one morning I get woken up by my mother telling me that Joel backed in to it, AGAIN, trying to get to school. This car has been viciously abused everything, including a dog, my best friend Dean (Twitter: @bubbadean11), and a pillar of a carport (ok that last one was me, but it was just a scrape, I promise). But the two biggest and most noticeable impacts on my car was from Joel. Now with me being the Walking Dead fanatic that I was, decided to name my car Carol, because she's been abused by men, but she's a valuable asset and get's me where I need to go.

4) I Still Have (and want to buy and play) Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards. I fell in love with Yu-Gi-Oh! growing up. I LOVED Pokemon, and wasn't very athletic or studious in elementary/middle school. My cousin Will introduced me first to the show. I was at first confused, but the more I continued to watch, i became enthralled. Growing up I got a weekly allowance of $5, which was perfect because the local Movie Gallery weekend rentals were $4.99, and so were a pack of Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards. I collected and collected and traded and traded and really spent WAY to much of my parents money on them. Dean and I loved to play and would Duel each other all the time.  One year for Christmas my aunt and uncle actually got me my own Duel Disk! It was AMAZING! Another awesome thing was that when I got into Jr. High, everybody at school played, even the faculty! We had a club at school on Saturdays. I eventually got to where I had two awesome decks: one that was Dragon, Wizard, Warrior based, and the other was an Elemental Hero Deck (I know that most people think that the elemental hero cards are overrated, but honestly it works, and it if it didn't it wouldn't make people as angry). So I kept them. I have an urge every time I go to Walmart to go look and buy. I have no one to play with anymore, but whenever a challenger ever comes my way, I'll be ready to use the "Heart of the Cards!"

3) My Current Voice Mail Is Me Imitating The 11th Doctor. I've mentioned in previous posts that I've recently this year been introduced to Dr. Who and am Obsessed! Well, a few weeks back one of the younger kids at church were messing around with my voice mail and I was like, "Hey, I do a mean Matt Smith.... I'ma make a Dr. Who voice mail!" So I did....... And it's stayed that way out of sheer laziness. I've gotten a lot of calls since then..... including calls from my parents, my pastor, church members, and I wanna say an actual preaching appointment (this is meant to be funny, but some of you are just gonna be all shake my head this is so sad). So..... yeah......

2) Explain to People Why My Social Media Alias is 2nd Tier Guardian. This is something that i get asked fairly regularly "Where did you come up with the name?" "What does it mean?" I am a huge Guardians of the Galaxy fan (yes, even before it came out as a movie). Rocket Raccoon has been one of my favorite Marvel characters for years now. So when I found out about the movie, I was PUMPED! I saw the movie and absolutely LOVED IT!!! So beautifully made. I had also been having problems with my first twitter account. I for some reason was continuously and involuntarily following Hebrew-posting people for some reason, and I couldn't make it stop, so I deactivated the account. However, I have an addiction to social media, and needed a new account. This was shortly after watching Guardians, so it was fresh on my mind. Thus, 2nd Tier Guardian was created (Twitter: @2ndTierGuardian). The idea was that whenever the Guardians of the Galaxy are busy and someone still requires aid, they can just call me, 2nd Tier Guardian. After I made the new account, I later started this blog, and soon I just replaced all of my social media accounts with the name (except Facebook, I have to keep more professional looking for work).

& finally, by far one of the geekiest things I've EVER done

1) Have Sat Down And Have Determined The Best Casting Choice For A Live-Action Pokemon Movie. As those of you that have kept up with these posts can probably tell, I'm big into Pokemon. Now I know that most people are all, "Oh man, first gen or nothing!" I'm not like that, I've quite enjoyed all of the generations. However, if a live-action movie is going to be made (and it should!) then they've got yo start with the first gen. So, being the fan that I am, I teamed up with one of best friends in the world Jared (Twitter: @jaredconatser) one week at church camp, and we have compiled the perfect Cast for a First Generation Pokemon Movie! It is as followed:
